Public Notice on Drinking Water

Every three years, the City is required to get “x” number of older homes in Minnetrista to allow the testing lab the City contracts with to gather water from their homes to send in for analysis on copper and lead that may leach from old pipes.  We passed the copper and lead tests in 2011 and 2014, and did so again in 2017.

In 2011 and 2014, we were required to have 10 homes sampled, based on the number of water users in the city.  Due to Minnetrista’s continued growth in 2017, the minimum number of homes we were required to test rose to 20 homes.  We were able to test just 19 homes – thus our 'monitoring requirements were not met'.  The water quality passed in 2017, as it did in 2011 and 2014.  Not meeting the minimum the number of homes creates a requirement for this public notice, NOT the quality of the water as we met the overall water quality standard.

Public Works will plan to collect more than 20 homes (with a goal of 25-30 homes) in preparation for the 2020 testing cycle. There are a finite amount of older homes that qualify for the testing, and all the new homes being built don’t help us in meeting this standard.  If residents of older homes would like to volunteer to participate in this sampling for 2020, please contact City Hall at 952-446-1660 to see if your home qualifies.

The Public Notice on Drinking Water is available for residents.
