The City of Minnetrista administers city, state and federal elections for its residents on even years. The odd year school district elections are administered by each school district. The city is available to answer your questions about polling places, voter registration, absentee voting, and other election information.

Important Election Dates




Municipal Elections

The City of Minnetrista’s next municipal election will appear on the November 2022 General Election Ballot.  The municipal offices on the ballot will be two Council Members (4 year terms - January 2023 thru December 2027), which are at-large positions, representing all Minnetrista residents.  Filing for municipal office begins on August 2, 2022 and closes at 5:00 pm on August 16, 2022.

Filing Process:

  1. In order to file for office, you need to fill out an affidavit of candidacy
  2. Determine appropriate filing fee and where to file
  3. Submit affidavit and payment during the filing dates

Where do I vote on Election Day?

Use the Secretary of State’s Polling Place Finder to find your voting location, maps, and the districts that represent you.


Early Voting

Residents may obtain an absentee ballot starting 46 days before an election.

If you apply more than 46 days before the election, your ballot will be mailed to you at least 46 days prior to the election. If you apply within 46 days of the election, your ballot will be mailed to you within a day or two of your application being received. Your mailed ballot will come with instructions and a return envelope. Ballots must be returned and received before or on election day by 3 p.m.

Primary Election

First day to vote early in person: Friday, June 24

Last day to vote early in person: Monday, August 8

General Election

First day to vote early in person: Friday, September 23

Last day to vote early in person: Monday, November 7


Mail-in Absentee ballots can be returned in-person at Minnetrista City Hall during business hours (M-F, 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) or mailed to the Hennepin County Government Center.

Voter Registration 

If you voted in the last election in Minnetrista and have not moved or changed your name, you should already be pre-registered to vote in the next election. If you have not registered to vote and would like to pre-register, you must submit a voter registration application or register online at least 20 days in advance of the next election. In Minnesota, you may register to vote on election day at your polling place.
