Mayor's Message September 2022

Greetings Friends, Neighbors and Constituents,

Fall has arrived. Most of us think of Labor Day as the end of summer. School has started, days are getting shorter, nights are cooler and fall colors are just around the corner! Fall 2022 is also an election year. Here in Minnetrista, there are two open municipal seats on the City Council. Pam Mortenson has been one of our City Councilmembers for the past eight years. She decided not to run for re-election, and her term will be expiring at the end of December 2022. John Tschumperlin has been on the Council since April of 2018 when he was appointed to the vacant Council seat held by Patricia Thoel. He then ran for office and has served as a Councilmember for four years. His term will also be expiring at the end of December 2022.

I want to thank both John and Pam for their many years of service and dedication to our city! We will be hosting an appreciation and farewell open house prior to our December 6, 2022 Council meeting. I hope you will take time to join us. More information will be posted on our website as we get closer to the date.

Four candidates have filed for the two open Councilmember seats, and you will see them on the November 2022 General Election Ballot; Peter Vickery, Jake Youngren, Heather Charles, and Claudia Lacy. General Election Day is on November 8, 2022 from 7:00am-8:00pm.

The League of Women Voters will be hosting a Candidate Forum at City Hall on Thursday, September 29th at 7:00pm. Please mark your calendars if you want to attend and learn more about Minnetrista’s Councilmember candidates. This is a great opportunity to meet the candidates and hear their positions on city issues. For more information, please visit the city’s website: www.cityofminnetrista.com/events/70163/
