Water test

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing clean and healthy drinking water, the City of Minnetrista’s Utility Services Department is offering an opportunity for 40 residents to participate in a Home Water Testing Study for copper and lead. With the age of residents' homes in mind, it is crucial to consider the quality of your water supply.

This simple and FREE test will provide residents with crucial information about the quality of your home’s water, allowing you to take proactive measures to protect your family’s health. Water sample collection will begin in June.

Why Test for Lead?

  • Protect Your Health: Lead is a toxic metal that can have severe impact on your and your family's health, especially children and pregnant women. Low levels of lead exposure can lead to developmental delays, learning difficulties, and behavioral problems. By testing your water for lead, you can identify any potential risks and take proactive measures to mitigate them.
  • Aging Infrastructure: Many homes, especially those built before 1986, may have plumbing systems containing copper pipes or fixtures and lead based solder. As these materials deteriorate over time, they can leak lead particles into your drinking water. Testing allows you to assess the quality of your water supply and take appropriate action if lead levels are detected.
  • Corrosive Water: Factors such as the pH level and mineral content of your water can influence its corrosiveness. Corrosive water has the potential to dissolve lead from pipes and plumbing fixtures, increasing the risk of lead contamination. Regular testing can help you monitor any changes in water composition.
  • Peace of Mind: Knowing that your water is free from harmful levels of lead provides peace of mind for you and your family. Regular testing allows you to stay informed about the quality of your water and take necessary precautions if any issues arise.
